Now is the Perfect Time for Family Marketing

As much as we’re all tired of hearing and talking about the pandemic, Covid-19 has changed the world around us. None of us can change what’s happened, but there is a new norm with some incredible opportunities to build on.

When I was a kid, everything was about family, especially on Sundays when nothing was open. Banks, supermarkets, gas stations, even drug stores – nothing was open. In fact, you couldn’t buy anything alcoholic on a Sunday. We also had only one TV in the house, and in the evening we all watched the same show together. Sundays and evenings after I did my homework, it was all about family.

So, fast forward 60+ years to today and the new norm. There’s a greater sense of family again. Everyone has been in some form of lockdown, away from other people, and spending time together. Board games are back with a vengeance. Everyone is home, often talking more and sharing more.

In an article by Clemson University family researcher Iryna Sharievska, she wrote:

“In simple terms, families who play together, stay together! They have better communication and function better; they create valuable family memories and maintain family traditions.”

And there’s my point – I’m not sure there’s ever been a greater need for family portraiture and in turn Marathon’s Family Marketing program. Everyone has been hunkered down, and despite the various spikes in new cases of the virus, the focus on family memories is in the spotlight.

The challenge is on your end, educating your target audience.

  • Start with your blog and share images about capturing family memories.
  • Remind Mom that the kids haven’t slowed down in growing just because they’ve been at home.
  • Share stories about the importance of old photographs and remind parents of special moments even now, that they’ll want to look back on.
  • Create products that help present these unique family portraits. Show Bella Prints on your site, along with Bella Albums.
  • While the December holidays might seem a long way off, what are you getting Grandma this year? Since contact has been so limited, imagine the impact a new family portrait would have.
  • Stress the importance of social distancing and your ability to comply with whatever makes your subject/client comfortable!
  • Suggest creative ideas, like photographing game night, a new pandemic-created activity in so many households.

The list goes on and on, but no matter how you look at the stress and tragedy of dealing with the pandemic – NOW is the time for family marketing!
