How to Find Photography Inspiration on Location

The Circle Bar Guest Ranch, located near Hobson Montana, is the setting for both spectacular scenery and truckloads of great photo opportunities. Located adjacent to the Lewis & Clark National Forest, and bordering the Judith River, it offers a vacation spot for photographers wanting to capture western lifestyle photography at it’s finest, or just watch the river run outside your cabin.

I think these images speak to the professionalism of the wranglers and staff at the Circle Bar. This is their lifestyle and they love to share their knowledge and expertise in helping both photography and non-photography guests and families who vacation at the ranch, learn more about the western way of life. Peruse their website to see other available activities if horseback riding isn’t on your “bucket list.”

I photographed at the ranch alongside some other members of the Cowgirls with Cameras Community. Cowgirls with Cameras offers a podcast, an online “community” of photography teaching aids and tutorials for those wanting to photograph the western lifestyle, and everything equine!

They also offer photographic workshops and retreats to other ranches each year. I’m honored to be part of such a professional photographic organization led by renowned photographers Kimberly Beer, Phyllis Burchett and Cara Taylor Swift.

Being a seasoned horseman, I wished initially that I could have trailered my own horse to the ranch for the riding opportunities, but in the end, the horses provided offered a birds eye view of both the ranch and the national forest areas that I never could have experienced on my own.

If you’ve never visited Montana, consider a trip to the ranch-or to the state itself. The breathtaking scenery, wildlife and authentic western experience make it a destination capable to creating memories that last a lifetime.
