Seed Planting into the Holidays

Now is the time to share ideas for holiday gift-giving that involve photography and your skill set. But it’s not easy to get through the noise!

Like many of you, I regularly wonder what happened to the America I grew up in. It doesn’t matter which side of the fight you’re on; no one can deny the number of people who are worried about the future, the economy, the cost of living, and the list goes on and on.

So, how will you reach your target audience and remind them of the importance of capturing memories?

Direct mail, email blasts, social media posts, partnerships with other companies, and community involvement can all play a role.

I continue to be a big fan of blogging, but you can also post directly to social media, such as your Facebook page, as well as in various groups where your target audience spends time.

However, there’s an important theme you need to highlight: telling a family’s story. Yes, it’s about capturing images and memories, but you’re the only magician who can tell a client’s story. For example, every day, kids change. They’re growing physically and emotionally without slowing down. You need to remind Mom that it’s time for a new family portrait.

Use your ability to tell their story—plant ideas for albums, events, day-in-the-life stories. Show a few album pages that demonstrate your abilities.  You’re not just capturing a photograph, but creating a new family heirloom, as Beverly and Tim Walden talk about in their programs.

At a time when so many people are worried about the future, you have to remind them of the emotional power of stopping time and turning intangible memories into tangible photographs. Nothing a client could give as a holiday gift is likely to have more power and impact than an updated family portrait!
