The Sweetest Fundraiser You’ll Ever Offer

If you’re looking to add a creative fundraiser into your marketing plan? Cones & Canines pet sessions allow you to create irresistible content, raise money for an animal rescue or shelter, and create an experience for pet owners they will never forget.

The Cones and Canines Event

I partnered with a local business who offered a space for these limited-edition sessions. Pet owners reserved their time and paid a reservation fee online. Sessions were scheduled every 15 minutes to allow time to photograph and clean up.  The goal was to capture 5 – 7 images of the dog slurping away at this special treat.  Every dog was given a small ice cream cone along with vanilla ice cream.

Because these were messy sessions, instead of viewing and ordering immediately after the session, private galleries were sent to owners with a limited amount of time to order. The reservation fees were donated to a local animal rescue.

This was one of the most complex fundraisers I’ve ever planned. Not because of the dogs; but because of the unpredictability (and mess!) of the ice cream. Once a pup started licking, I had only seconds to capture the moment. That’s why careful planning and practice was essential.

Planning the Perfect Cone Moment

Before the event, I worked with a few dogs to determine where the owner should position the cone, so it photographed well and was easy for the dog to reach. I had the owners offer the ice cream to their pets instead of using an assistant.

These practice sessions allowed me to observe a dog’s behavior when offered a sweet treat. Some licked gently, others finished their ice cream and cone in a matter of seconds. I quickly learned that timing was everything.

Keeping the Ice Cream Cold

I knew one of the biggest challenges was keeping the ice cream cold during a 5-hour event. Rather than relying on coolers and ice alone, I used dry ice to keep the ice cream from melting. If you choose to use dry ice, make sure you wear gloves to keep your hands safe.

Capturing a Moment

Yes, there is prep, practice, patience, and a few melted messes along the way; but what comes out of a session like this is pure magic. You’re not just taking a cute photo of a dog with a cone. You’re creating an experience that pet owners will always remember.
