Time to Launch a Change in Your Career?

Over the years, I’ve met so many photographers who were unhappy with the current direction their businesses were taking. I’m not talking about the revenue side; I’m talking about their specialty. Yet, they’re afraid to make a change.

And so many of them know exactly what they’d like to be doing, but they’re caught in analysis-paralysis and have pondered so long that they now believe they’ve missed the window of opportunity.

Here’s one ingredient having an impact on making changes…aging! On projects of my own, I’ve noticed I’ve slowed down on many aspects of my business, but I’m not “done” yet. There are still a few ideas bouncing around in my head. Just putting them down on paper is energizing – now comes the challenge of doing a lifeboat drill – figuring out what makes it into the boat and what doesn’t.

Here’s my point–If you’ve got an idea that’s been hanging around long enough to appear more than just a few times in your thoughts and conversations with friends, then it’s time to pursue it. Don’t let it stagnate and get buried under the stress of life. Like the Nike slogan: Just do it!

The exciting thing about imaging is that there are always opportunities to change what you’re doing. Best of all, all of you have networks of friends and associates who are willing to give you a hand. But you have to be the one to make the first move.

And don’t forget to call the team at Marathon. They talk to hundreds of photographers all the time.  They have incredible insight into the market and the challenges everyone is facing in business today.

You have exactly one life in which to do everything you’ll ever do.
Act accordingly!

As I’ve written before…You can’t create images that tug at people’s heartstrings if your own heart isn’t in it. So, think about what you’d like to change in your business and then set up a timeline with benchmarks for achievable goals.

And if you’re stuck, you know where to find me. I’m happy to be a sounding board for any ideas you want to tackle.
