While this post isn’t directly written by Kay Eskridge, I’m sharing the pure genius of her timing and illustrative ability with her “Rebarkable Pet Portraits.”
In a survey done by Kodak, at least twenty-five years ago, the top reasons people hired a professional photographer in the portrait/social categories were brides, babies, and pets. Until the pandemic, I don’t believe the ranking had ever changed.
With the challenges of event photography, I’m sure brides dropped down a notch. Now throw in the importance of social distancing and, in general, health issues, babies probably moved too. So, that leaves pets, and the demand for portraiture is definitely on the rise.
I pulled this from a Morgan Stanley article on investing in stocks in the pet world:
The $100 billion pet industry is poised to nearly triple to $275 billion by 2030, creating potential tailwinds for pet-friendly stocks. The pandemic has upended the lives of humans, but for pets, it’s been a bonanza: Their owners have been home all day, showering them with attention and treats…Morgan Stanley’s housing strategists estimate that the growth trend of US pet ownership more than tripled during the pandemic…
I know from my own family, it took us eight months to finally get our two dogs into the vet for their annual shots. Why? Because “everybody got a dog or cat during the pandemic.”
That brings me right to my point – the world has gone upside down, but nothing has slowed down everyone’s love for their four-legged furry members in the family. Holiday seasonality is here, and the demand for pet portraiture is only going to grow.
Even better is your ability to provide stunning images to your clients. But it all starts with your website and your blog. So first, you’ve got to plant the seeds for ideas and then demonstrate your creative ability as an artist and, at times, even an interior decorator.
And part of the fun of all of this is Marathon’s ability to provide beautiful Bella Art Prints through their product line – all at a reasonable cost!
(A big thanks to Kay for her never-ending passion for the craft and creating images the pull at our heartstrings!)
