A photographer is so much more than just someone who likes to take pictures of people, places, and things. In his article, “What are the Real Responsibilities of a Professional Photographer?”, James Maher gives the five things he believes every photographer is.
- A photographer is an artist and storyteller
- A photographer is a craftsperson
- A photographer is a businessperson
- A photographer is an expert in logistics
- A photographer is an actor and a performance artist
This is a wonderful list of what a photographer’s responsibilities are. The first job of a photographer is to capture a work of art and tell a story with it. It is never just a portrait; its someone’s story. It’s a photographer’s job to know their craft and successfully run their business in a way that gives their clients the experience of working with an artist who knows how to capture their story. It is a photographer’s job to make sure that everything is planned out and all of the logistics of a photo shoot are going to run smoothly. It is a photographer’s job to act confident and reassure their clients. All of these things are very important to the success of a photographer.
So what do you think? What is a photographer?
